This course runs from Tango Town to Amino Town and allows you to enjoy landscapes that evoke ancient volcanic activity, such as Tateiwa, Taiza Coast, and Shirojima.
[Tateiwa]
A coastline where the towering "Tateiwa" rock, about 20m in circumference, stands as a geospot representative of Kyotango. The crystal clear seawater and large grains of sand washed by the waves make it a great spot for swimming in the summer, and in winter, the dynamic rough waves of the Sea of Japan combine with the snow-covered landscape of Tateiwa rock to create a spectacular view of the Sea of Japan in winter.
[Statue of Empress Mother and Child]
The statue of Empress Masuhito is 3.5m tall, and the statue of Prince Shotoku is 1.5m tall, both bronze statues. The stone pillar behind the mother and child statues is 5.5m tall, and represents the Asuka period. It is thick in the middle, and has the same shape as the pillars at Horyuji Temple in Nara.
It is said that Empress Anahobe no Hashiudo, the mother of Prince Shotoku, sought refuge here to escape the conflict between the Soga and Mononobe clans. When she returned to Yamato Province, the Empress bestowed upon her the name, but the villagers, who thought it too dignified to pronounce it, decided to read it as "Taiza" in honor of her departure. A statue of mother and child based on this legend stands overlooking the Sea of Japan.
[Tain fishing port]
Snow crab fishing is permitted every year on November 11th at Taiza Fishing Port (Tango Town, Kyotango City), located on the Tango Peninsula jutting out into the Sea of Japan. Taiza crabs landed at this port come from fishing grounds about 6 to 20 km offshore from Kyogamisaki Cape, the northernmost tip of Kyoto Prefecture, and are extremely fresh thanks to day-trip operations. They are said to be top-notch in terms of taste and quality.
[Joshima]
The island is 21m above sea level and has a circumference of about 4km, and there is a promenade that circles the entire island.
[Mitsu Fishing Port]
From Tango Town to Amino Town. Mitsu Fishing Port (coast) is also chosen as a location for TV dramas and movies. Nearby, there is a fishing port marked by a cute little red lighthouse, which is also a popular photo spot.
