Shotenkyo - Kamai Asahi Course

A beautiful coastline surrounded by mountains. Walk from Shotenkyo Bridge to Asahi, enjoying the nature of Tango.
It is said that during the Edo period, it flourished greatly as a base for transporting rice as tax by Kitamae ships.

[Kotenkyo]

The sandbar that separates the Sea of Japan and Kumihama Bay is called Shotenkyo, and a long white sand beach stretches for about 8 km to Yuhigaura Beach in the east. There are about 40 lodgings around the sandbar.

[Kumihama Bay]

A lagoon with a circumference of 28 km, separated from the Sea of Japan by a sandbar. Oyster beds spread across the calm inland sea, and the scenery has been designated as a cultural landscape of Kyoto Prefecture.

[Asahi Fishing Port]

This is the only port around Kumihama where large ships can enter and exit.
During the Edo period, rice taxes from Kumano County (present-day Kumihama area) were shipped out on ships of the 1,000 koku class, and large ships from various countries also called at the port.
The "Moyai Rock" where large ships were tied up still remains today.
