The birthplace of rice cultivation, rice-growing Kyotango boasts five sake breweries

Tsukinowada in Mineyama-cho, Kyotango City, is said to be the place where Toyouke-no-Okami first started rice cultivation in Japan for Amaterasu-Oomikami a long time ago. Kyotango has had a high number of sake breweries and distilleries since ancient times, which is rare in the rest of the country. The reason for this is said to be that the area is blessed with abundant nature, clean water, and a large temperature difference between day and night, all of which are conditions that make it possible to produce delicious rice.

◆ Hometown of the "Tango Toji" who demonstrated his sake brewing skills in Fushimi and other areas

During the Edo period, many farm men from Tango worked as brewers in sake breweries in Fushimi, Kyoto, and other places during the off-season. They eventually came to be highly regarded as a group of skilled sake brewers known as the "Tango brewers."
Even today, there are sake breweries that continue to make sake using traditional methods that make use of Tango's water and rice, as well as sake breweries that make use of their own traditions and characteristics. Sake with traditional flavors and aromas has loyal fans not only in the local area but all over the country.

◆ Alcohol and food that complement each other

"Pairing" - combining alcohol and food to create even more flavor

Japanese sake comes in a variety of flavors and aromas, and Kyotango's rich lineup of local sakes, each with its own unique character, offers the fun of imagining which sake would go best with a particular dish and trying them out.
In particular, the combination of Kyotango's winter delicacies, crab and oysters, and sake is an excellent match.

The combination of Kyotango sake and seasonal Kyotango cuisine enhances the flavor even more when they come together in your mouth. We hope you will find your own unique pairing.

◆ Delicious and beauty-enhancing Japanese sake

Sake contains kojic acid, ferulic acid, and amino acids. These ingredients are great for women who are concerned about whitening, moisturizing, and skin texture. Drinking sake also improves blood circulation and is said to be good for stiff shoulders and poor circulation.

For those new to sake, sweet sake is easier to drink. First, try sipping it little by little in a small cup.
