Japanese film director. In 1983, he won an award at PFF83 for "To Mariko." After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at the University of Tokyo, he first stepped onto the scene as a director on "This Love Story," directed by Toshio Masuda. In 1996, he directed his first TV drama, "Thursday Ghost Story: Ghost Hunter Saki." He served as assistant director on "Financial Corruption Archipelago: Curse" (directed by Masato Harada) and "Women in the Mirror" (directed by Yoshishige Yoshida). After working as assistant director on "Jirochou Sangokushi," directed by Masahiko Makino, he made his long-awaited debut as a film director with "The Blue Bird." His subsequent directorial works include "After the Flowers" and "Gears of Love."
