Okiku is 22 years old.
I lost my voice, but I fell in love.
I have something to say to him.
So today, I'm going to walk anywhere to see you.
Though she was raised in a samurai family, she now lives with her father in a poor tenement house. She has known Nakatsugu for a long time, running down the narrow alleys every morning to dig up manure from the toilet. One day, Okiku's throat was cut and she lost her voice, but she still decided to teach children how to read and write. On a cold morning, it looked like it was about to snow. After struggling to reach Nakatsugu's house, Okiku communicates her feelings as best she can with gestures and hands.
