Screening
"Byobu Rock" is a 13m-tall andesite rock that was named after the way it looks like a folding screen rising from the sea. To the northwest, five small rocks float in the sea, lined up in a straight line, telling of the changes in the cracks in the plateau. There is an observation deck along National Route 5 where you can take your time to enjoy the view of Byobu Rock.
This rock is the result of magma intruding into a layer of volcanic ash that had accumulated about 1500 million years ago and solidifying. Because the intruded rock was harder than the surrounding rocks, it was left behind and formed into its current form. Small islands are lined up in a straight line to the northwest and southeast of the "Folding Screen Rock." These indicate that magma intruded in a plate-like shape.
