Kotohira Shrine
The shrine was established in 8 by Kyogoku Takabi, the lord of Mineyama Domain, who welcomed a branch of the deity from Sanuki Konpira Shrine. It attracts worshippers from all over Tango as the god of business prosperity, matchmaking, and exam success. In autumn, the grounds are decorated with beautiful autumn leaves, and in spring, summer, and autumn, festivals are held with mikoshi and floats. The lively Konpira Handicraft Market is held on the third Sunday of every month. The "Koma-neko" (guardian lion cats) enshrined at Kijima Shrine on the grounds are a symbol of Tango, a region that prospered through crepe paper.
