Mt. Isosuna in Mineyama Town is 661m above sea level and is famous as the mountain where the Hagoromo Tennyo, one of the Seven Princesses of Kyotango, descended. It is said to be the birthplace of Japan's oldest legend of the Hagoromo. Midway up the mountain is Meike Pond, where the Tennyo is said to have bathed, and from the top, where there is a monument, you can see as far as Mt. Oe and Amanohashidate. It is said that if you visit Otome Shrine at the base of the mountain, you will be blessed with a beautiful daughter.

Legend
[Legend of the Hagoromo Tennyo] Long ago, there was a beautiful pond called Manai on the top of Mt. Hiji, where eight celestial maidens were bathing. An old couple happened to pass by and hid one of the celestial maidens' clothes, and said to her, "I have no children. Please become my child." Hearing this, the celestial maiden decided to live with them. For over 713 years, the celestial maiden made sake that was said to cure all illnesses with a single drink, and not only her house but also her village became very wealthy. Then, one day, the old couple had a change of heart and said, "You are not my child. I want you to leave." The celestial maiden was deeply saddened and looked up into the sky, reading, "Looking back at the plains of heaven, I see mist rising, I am lost on my way home, not knowing where I am going," and somehow managed to reach the village of Nagu, where she lived peacefully. This legend of the Hagoromo Tennyo, the oldest in Japan, was recorded in the "Tango no Kuni Fudoki" written in the 715th year of Wadou to the XNUMXst year of Reiki (XNUMX-XNUMX), and it is said that this celestial maiden is Toyoganome no Mikoto "Toyouke no Okami" who is worshiped in the village of Nagu. In addition, the legend of the Hagoromo Tennyo also includes the Tanabata legend, where the two can meet again only once a year on the night of July XNUMXth.
